Glen Rock, NJ High SchoolOn Monday, October 1, the U.S. Department of Education announced the 2018 National Blue Ribbon School honorees. Glen Rock High School was a winner in the category of Exemplary High Performing School.

There were only eight public schools in NJ receiving Blue Ribbon status, including recipients in the 2nd category of Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School.

Winners are chosen based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Every year the U. S. Department of Education seeks out and celebrates great American schools, schools demonstrating that all students can achieve to high levels. More than 8,500 schools across the country have been presented with this coveted award. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.

Shortly after receiving the news, school Principal John Arlotta issued this statement: “I am very pleased to announce that Glen Rock High School has been selected as a 2018 Blue Ribbon School. This is quite an achievement and one for which we should all celebrate… Congratulations GRHS!!!”

In total, 300 public schools and 49 private schools received the award across the two categories. Glen Rock High School is the only public school in Bergen County on this year’s list of Blue Ribbon honorees.

2018 has been a banner year for Glen Rock High School. The NJ Department of Education ranked the school as the best public high school in the state. And in its September, 2018 issue, New Jersey Monthly Magazine listed Glen Rock as the state’s best non-magnet high school.

Kudos, Glen Rock High School!
