About Ridgewood, NJ

Ridgewood is the cultural hub of northwest Bergen, attracting residents from surrounding towns for its restaurants, activities and small shops. Originally developed as a summer retreat from New York City, well-to-do city dwellers built second homes in Ridgewood and before long were living here year-round. Ridgewood has held onto its reputation as a prestigious place to live, attracting the best and brightest from throughout the NYC metro area. Ridgewood schools are top-notch, currently ranked seventh in the state by NJ Monthly Magazine. Ridgewood values its traditional homes and has many colonials built between 1900 and 1950. A commuter train to NYC passes through the center of town and there's a Park and Ride express bus stop on Route 17.

The Heights
This neighborhood on the north side of Ridgewood is one of the most desired. Willard Elementary School is very much in demand, and the homes here average $800,000 to $2,000,000 with some priced even higher.

The Old Country Club
This neighborhood was built on the grounds of an old Country Club. The homes here are particularly grand, and the lots are generally larger. The Old Country Club section is in southwest Ridgewood, south of Godwin Ave and west of Lincoln Ave.

The Lawns
The Lawns section of Ridgewood was built for soldiers returning from World War II. The homes were originally Cape Cods, but many have been expanded into colonials in recent years. Lots tend to be 50 to 75 feet wide and 100 feet deep. Hawes School in the neighborhood is the highest-scoring of Ridgewood's six elementary schools.
Ridgewood residents are currently debating the future of Graydon Pool. Planning is underway for a modern swimming facility.
